Ble krigsbarn kidnappet?

Fra      Office of Chief of Councel for War Crimes APO 696-A. 13 August 1947.

Til:       Ministry of Social Welfare, Victoria Terasse 11, Oslo, Norway.

Dear Sir:

In our search for documentary evidence to be presented in the prosecution of Case No. 8, U.S.A vs Greifelt et al, this office, Office of Chief of Councel for War Crimes, Nurnberg, has been advised by Mr.Rorholt and Miss Martens, representaves of the Norwegian Red Cross, that you are in possession or have knowledge of the whereabouts of documents concerning Norwegian children taken by the nazis from Norway into Germany.

The specific charge of the indictment in which we are interested is to wit:

”11. Kidnapping of Alien Children. An extensive plan of kidnapping ”racially valuable” alien children was instituted. This plan had the two-fold purpose of weakening enemy nations and increasing the population of Germany. It was also used as a method of retalitation and intimidation in the occupied countries. During the war years, numeous Czech, Polish, Yogoslav and Norwegian children were taken fraom their parents or guardians and classified according to their ”racial value”. Also included in this program were the illegitimate children of non-German mothers, fathered by members of the German armed forces in the occupied countries. Those children considered to be ”racially valuable” were selected for Germanization  and placed in foster homes or designated chldren’s homes. In carrying out this program, numerous birth certificates were falsified and German names were given to those children selected for Germanization. The defendants GREIFELT, CREUTZ, MEYER-HETLING, SCHWARZENBERGER, HUEBNER, HILDEBRANDT, HOFFMANN, SCHWALM, SOLLMANN, EBNER, TESCH, VIERMETZ, LORENTZ and BRUECKNER are charged with special responsibility for and participation in these crimes.”

Documentary evidence in our possession shows that Lebensborn e.V. took part in the transfer of illigitimate children of German soldiers and French, Norwegian, Danish and Belgian women of ”good race” to Germany. In some cases, children were transferred with their mothers; in others, the mothers were left in their native countries. However, this evidence is not complete to show a true picture of what actually happened concerning Norwegian children fathered by German occupation forces.

We would appreciate your sending us at your very earliest convenience any additional information which you may have in the form of documents or reports concerning the deportaion of children from Norway to Germany or of listings of children who have been recovered and returned to their native land.

Very truly yuors,

Harold E. Neely Attorney, SS Division.
